About MCST

The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) is a public body established by central government in 1988.  The MCST was given the specific mandate of advising government on Science and Technology policy, today its remit has developed and MCST's tasks have expanded to include: 

  1. The responsibility for National Strategy in the field of Research and Innovation (R&I) and the ownership of the National Strategic Plan 2007-2010.

  2. Responsibility for Policy in the area of Research and Innovation, MCST represents government in EU fora related to R&I. These fora include:   

    CREST  facilitates the progress of policy coordination throughout Europe.
    Joint Research Centre Board
    DG Research working parties
    EIT (European Institute of Technology) working parties
    ESFRI (European Strategic Forum on Research Infrastructure) 

  3. The management and administration of the National Research and Innovation Funding Programme 

  4. The responsibilty as National Contact Organisation for creating awareness and providing support for EU’s Research and Development Framework Programme (FP7)
