500 young Europeans to meet in France to discuss a Knowledge-Based Society

YOUNG PEOPLE WITHIN A EUROPEAN KNOWLEDGE-BASED SOCIETY
500 young Europeans are being given the opportunity to attend a seminar in Poitiers, France between the 20-28 October 2008. As one of the intitiatives of the French Presidency of the European Union, two French organisations, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the Association Française des Petits Débrouillards (AFPD) are giving these young people the opportunity to develop recommendations on the European Knowledge-Based Society.

Through various levels of consultation, young Europeans shall produce 20 recommendations to the European Commission, National Governments, and the Competitiveness Council of the European Union meeting in December 2008.

The objectives are

  • To allow young people to contribute and participate to the emergence of a European knowledge-based society (Lisbon Strategy, 2000);
  • To facilitate and participate in a dialogue between young European citizens, scientists, European leaders, national and European institutions;
  • To produce a booklet and a DVD for the general public on the contemporary relationships between science and democracy based on the work of all national groups and scientific studies.

No particular qualifications are necessary, and people with different experiences, training and skills are welcome.  The intention is to have a diversified group with workers, students, unemployed, different physical and mental abilities, talents, aptitudes and preferences.  A gender balanced team will be ideal.
