2nd FUTURREG Workshop on Foresight and Innovation Policies and Strategies Friday, 16th March 2007
Friday 16th march saw the launch of the second in a series of Futurreg Malta activities targeting senior policy-makers in Research and Innovation. This event focused on the Futurreg MARIS Pilot and was aimed at starting up a discussion on a dedicated innovation policy strategy for Malta within the framework of the new R&I Plan 2007-2010 and drawing on the MARIS ongoing research activity. The starting point for this discussion was the presentation of the results of recently completed surveys of private sector R&D capacities and activity with a view to identifying the key policy implications. These included the EU Study on Private Sector R&D in New Member States completed last year, the MARIS survey by META, the Forlink Private Sector R&I study by EMCS, and the FOI METIC Project survey. Key speakers from overseas included Dr Matthias Weber of Austrian Research Centres(ARC), Dr Patrick Crehan (CKA Belgium) and Lorenzo Lo Cascio (META Group Italy).
The main deliverables of the workshop were to identify gaps in innovation measures and related know-how and the focus of follow-up workshops. A follow-up scenarios workshop with the same group of stakeholders is envisaged in the coming months.
